Intramural Basketball
BOYS & GIRLS | GRADES 1 – 8
Started in 2022, Intramural Basketball is an in-town basketball program that replaced what was previously called Rec Basketball that was run through the town of Natick’s Rec and Parks department. We have rebranded all of our in-town (non-travel) winter programs as Intramurals. This extends the Intramural program to include Grades 1-2, which was previously called Winter Hoopsters.
Overview
- The Intramural program is open to boys and girls currently in Grades 1-8.
- You can register for Intramurals and there are no tryouts for this program.
- You can register for Travel tryouts and decide to only play Intramural.
- Players who do not make a travel team will have the opportunity to register for Intramurals after travel teams are formed.
- While Intramural Basketball is run by NYB – this is not Travel Basketball.
- Intramural Basketball is also different from our fall and spring Hoopsters programs, which a skill clinics for players in Grades K-3.
- The Intramural program is meant to create a fun and engaging environment for kids to learn and develop their skills with a mix of practices and games.
- For Grades 3-8, each team will have one practice per week, Monday-Friday and one game per week on Saturdays.
- Practices will start the week after Thanksgiving and the first games will be in early December.
- Times and locations of games, the number of teams per age/gender group and practice schedules will be determined based on registration numbers.
- For Grades 1-2, players will be placed on a team and have a 30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game each Saturday. Games and practices will be played on 8.5 ft hoops. There will be no weekday practices for Grades 1-2.
- We plan on providing more opportunities throughout the year for kids to gain additional exposure to basketball – for the latest on our Skill Clinics you can click here and you can also check out our Schedule here.
- Teams will be coached by parent volunteers, sign up to become a coach!

About the Intramural Program
Grades 1–2
Saturday combined practice and game sessions
Season runs December 5 – February 13
Grades 3–8
One weekday practice per week
Saturday games
Practices begin the week of November 30, with an additional practice on Saturday, December 5
Games begin December 12, with the season running through early March
Practice schedules and game times will be finalized after registration closes.
Open Gyms
We’re hosting free open gyms for travel basketball players to get some time in the gym before practices begin in November.
Open gyms will be run and supervised by NYB coaches and board members. No registration is required.
All open gyms will take place at Kennedy Middle School on the following dates:
Boys
4th Grade Boys: Monday, 10/19 6:15pm – 7:30pm and Thursday, 10/22 6:15pm – 7:30pm
5th Grade Boys: Monday, 10/19 7:30pm – 8:45pm and Tuesday, 10/27 6:15pm – 7:30pm
6th Grade Boys: Wednesday, 10/21 6:15pm – 7:30pm and Wednesday, 10/28 6:15pm – 7:30pm
7th Grade Boys: Wednesday, 10/21 7:30pm – 8:45pm and Tuesday, 10/27 7:30pm – 8:45pm
8th Grade Boys: Thursday, 10/22 7:30pm – 8:45pm and Wednesday, 10/28 7:30pm – 8:45pm
Girls
4th & 5th Grade Girls: Tuesday, 10/20 6:15pm – 7:30pm and Monday, 10/26 6:15pm – 7:30pm
6th - 8th Grade Girls: Tuesday, 10/20 7:30pm – 8:45pm and Monday, 10/26 7:30pm – 8:45pm
NYB is transitioning to new uniforms for the upcoming travel basketball season. Our current uniforms are being phased out, so all players will need to purchase the new uniform style.
We know many families expect uniforms to last multiple seasons. To help ease the transition, NYB will cover 50% of the uniform cost for all players this season!

Sponsors receive their business name on the back of team uniforms, providing visibility throughout the season and beyond as players wear their shirts around town.

Designed for boys and girls in grades K–3, Hoopsters introduces shooting, dribbling and passing through drills and contests in a fun, non-competitive environment. Our goal is to build fundamental skills and get kids excited about basketball!

Pre-Season Clinics — Grades 4–8
Get ready for travel tryouts with skill-building clinics running September 13–30 at Kennedy Middle School. Space is limited! Registration is open until three days prior to each session.
