Intramural Basketball

BOYS & GIRLS | GRADES 1 – 8

Started in 2022, Intramural Basketball is an in-town basketball program that replaced what was previously called Rec Basketball that was run through the town of Natick’s Rec and Parks department. We have rebranded all of our in-town (non-travel) winter programs as Intramurals. This extends the Intramural program to include Grades 1-2, which was previously called Winter Hoopsters.

Overview

  • The Intramural program is open to boys and girls currently in Grades 1-8.
  • You can register for Intramurals and there are no tryouts for this program.
  • You can register for Travel tryouts and decide to only play Intramural.
  • Players who do not make a travel team will have the opportunity to register for Intramurals after travel teams are formed.
  • While Intramural Basketball is run by NYB – this is not Travel Basketball
  • Intramural Basketball is also different from our fall and spring Hoopsters programs, which a skill clinics for players in Grades K-3.
  • The Intramural program is meant to create a fun and engaging environment for kids to learn and develop their skills with a mix of practices and games.
  • For Grades 3-8, each team will have one practice per week, Monday-Friday and one game per week on Saturdays.
  • Practices will start the week after Thanksgiving and the first games will be in early December.
  • Times and locations of games, the number of teams per age/gender group and practice schedules will be determined based on registration numbers.
  • For Grades 1-2, players will be placed on a team and have a 30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game each Saturday. Games and practices will be played on 8.5 ft hoops. There will be no weekday practices for Grades 1-2.
  • We plan on providing more opportunities throughout the year for kids to gain additional exposure to basketball – for the latest on our Skill Clinics you can click here and you can also check out our Schedule here.
  • Teams will be coached by parent volunteers, sign up to become a coach!

🏀 Boys 8C – Built for the Moment 🏀

This 8C team didn’t just have a season… they built a run.

Finishing 6–5 in league play, this group kept growing, competing, and believing—and when the playoffs hit, they flipped the switch.

With three straight playoff wins, the boys battled their way all the way to the D6 Championship Game. And in a hard-fought final against Swansea, they left everything on the court, coming up just short in a narrow, down-to-the-wire loss.

But this season was about so much more than one game.

As Coach Dave F shared:
“This season was never just about the scoreboard.

From day one, we chose a different definition of winning: effort every play, the right attitude, trusting each other, owning your mistakes, and putting in the work even when it’s hard.

The message stayed consistent and simple: play with confidence, bring the energy, be tough, communicate, and never let a teammate stay down—you pick him up.

You won’t always control the outcome, but you always control how you show up. Do you give your best? Do you stay accountable? Do you fight for the people next to you?

That’s what matters.

Those aren’t just basketball lessons, those are life lessons.”

And this team lived it—every practice, every game, every moment.

To this group of boys—thank you for the fight, the brotherhood, and the unforgettable run. You showed what it means to compete the right way. ❤️💙

🏀 Boys 8B – Battling Every Night 🏀

This Boys 8B team took on a challenge all season long—and never backed down.

Playing as a B team in Division 3, they went up against many A teams from surrounding towns, and time after time, they proved they belonged. Most games were tight battles, with this group competing until the final whistle.

And when the moment called for it?
They delivered.

With multiple buzzer-beating wins, this team created some unforgettable moments—games that had the gym buzzing and showed just how much heart they played with.

But more than anything, this team was defined by their commitment.

As Coach Shawn Kelly shared:
“The Boys 8B team was an absolute pleasure to coach this season, particularly as this group of young men makes the transition from Natick Youth Basketball to high school in the coming months. I will always remember this team as truly dedicated and committed, showing up to each practice and game ready to put in the work. I’m sure they will each do great things on whichever path they choose, and I hope to be there cheering them on!”

To this group of boys—thank you for your effort, your toughness, and the way you competed all season long. The next chapter is just beginning. ❤️💙
